Blast from the Past

Today was the first annual Ray Kinsland Classic Golf Tournament for the Cherokee High School football, baseball, and golf programs. What an amazing day! A fun fact for the day is that one of our celebrity guests was Clyde Simmons, former NFL standout. The cool part about that was that he played basketball for Dad at New Hanover High School in Wilmington in the early 80's. It was great to see him again! Oh, and Davy's team even came in 3rd in their flight. Way cool!

So, friends, save the date for next year and come join us again!

Night of Cherokee

Last night was Cherokee Central School's annual "Night of Cherokee." Both boys performed - Tyler with the traditional singers and David with the second grade class. They were great!

Geeking Out

I am totally geeking out because John Rocker, former MLB pitching stand out, came out to Cherokee today to work with Davy's high school baseball team. He worked with each of our pitchers individually for at least 30 minutes each. I don't know if they realize what an amazing opportunity it has been, but it's definitely once in a lifetime. Of course I had to take the boys picture with him!

David - 2005 & 2011

Again, same park, same slide, same weekend - different year! I keep looking at these pictures and am having flash backs and flash forwards. I can't wait to meet our new little man and learn all about the special guy that God made for our family.

Picnic on the Parkway

Happy Easter! Today we took the boys for a picnic lunch up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had a hard time finding a church since we've moved (boy do we miss First Baptist in Washington), so we read the Easter story while we stopped for lunch and had a beautiful chat with the boys. When we asked them about Easter, they said that Jesus died for us and rose again. When we asked what his resurrection protected us from, David replied, in all seriousness, "The British?" After a quick reminder, he corrected himself and said "Oh yeah. Our sins, our sins." We are blessed to have two boys who believe in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Baseball Camp

On this gorgeous Saturday, one of Davy's baseball players held a baseball mini camp as his senior project. Of course, David and Tyler attended and had a great time. In this picture, they are learning how to "pop up" slide. Obviously, David doesn't have the hang of it yet.

Asian Studies

Tyler and David have been learning about the different continents this year in their Horizons class. Last night at the Arts Showcase, one of the pieces they each had on display was a traditional Chinese lantern. I love how the boys are so proud of their work and love sharing what they are learning and experiencing. It seems that their favorite part of this continent's study was the trip to the Chinese restaurant for lunch!

A-Maze-ing Arts Fest

Thanks so much to the teachers and students of Cherokee Elementary School for putting on an amazing showcase of student arts tonight at school. Tyler sang with the Traditional Choir and both boys had artwork shown. Way to go guys!

Field Trip Earth

Today my class got to chat with Mark McAllister from Asheboro Zoo's Field Trip Earth outreach program. He taught us all about black bears! It was so great. Isn't technology awesome?

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Rain, Rain, Go Away! We have had lots of spring storms lately - it even snowed on Monday, April 4 while it was storming. Crazy, crazy days. So far this season, we've had to reschedule at least four baseball games. The end of the season is getting very crowded. We love the rain and it is very needed, but I just want to take a nap when it's like this.

This photo was taken from our bedroom window, and I really liked how the small leaf stuck to the window. The green is still so beautiful!

My Three Men

Hard to believe it won't be long before it's my FOUR men... Phew. The kids at school today finally asked if I was pregnant. Apparently, I'm finally showing enough that they couldn't help but noticed. I think I'm more concerned that it took them 6 months to notice!

Picnic in the Park

Today we took a lovely Sunday drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We packed a picnic lunch and enjoyed a gorgeous day together. Here is a picture of David at Mingus Mill, near Cherokee.

Grammy Reads

Grammy read two special books to my twins while we were visiting in Whispering Pines this week. When I was in college, my grandmother, Ellen Wade, fulfilled a lifelong dream by writing and publishing a series of children's books about her special dog, Peanuts. All of the profits from the book went to the Humane Society of Goshen, Indiana, where Peanuts was a rescue dog. These books are very special to us, and it's all the more meaningful that my boys got to share them with their grandmother!

A Day at the Park

It's hard to believe that it won't be long before there are four boys in this pile! Loving this picture of David & Tyler, and my nephew Wes.
