More from Discovery Place
Still seems like home... yet so far away in more ways than just geography. It's hard to believe that it was fourteen years ago that I was boarding an airplane with two giant suitcases for a semester in Paris. What an amazing opportunity and memories!

SciCon
Today was the 2011 DEN SciCon online conference event. My fellow NC DEN leaders, Conni and Judy, and I planned a wonderful in-person event at Discovery Place in Charlotte today. We had a wonderful time and I collected a lot of photos. Over the next weeks, I hope to share more of these with you. I had never been to Discovery Place before, so it was especially fun for me. I know the boys would LOVE it, so maybe sometime when we are visiting Nana and Papaw we can make a trip down to check it out. Here's one of my favorite photos from the day.
Also, my revelation for today is that I will forgive myself for not posting a picture every day. The end of this week was a yucky feeling one for me, and I just didn't have the energy to seek and post pictures... and that's OK!

Dinner Out
We went out to dinner tonight to one of our favorite places - Nick & Nate's. There's nothing like peanuts on the table at a pizza joint. If only I could partake in the micro-brewery part of the restaurant. Our favorite is the Flyin' Hawaiian, with pineapple, canadian bacon & mandarin oranges, or the Nantahala, with spinach & feta cheese. Yum!

A look back
Tonight, I went back through my pictures from January of 2010 and had to laugh when I ran across some snow pictures from our house in Washington. I had to include this one, which gives you an idea of the amount of snow that our family has been used to in the past. Luckily, we are adapting well to the snow. Maybe it's the pregnancy for me and the Wii for the boys, but cabin fever hasn't really set it too terribly. Thank goodness!

What a Day
Today proved to be a very memorable day for Tyler. He lost a tooth this morning and bowled a 265 this afternoon on Wii bowling with 10/12 strikes. Of course, it had to be the picture of the day!
This is actually Tyler's second lost tooth, but he doesn't like to count the one he lost at 3 months old. Even 5 1/2 weeks early, Tyler was born with a baby tooth. The doctors couldn't believe it themselves, but it was true. As a skinny little man with a balding head and one middle tooth, he looked like an old man... in the cutest possible way, of course. At about 3 months, the tooth started to loosen to the point where he couldn't take his bottle anymore. Finally, one evening in August after a particularly frustrating night at Outback in Myrtle Beach with family, we came home and had to pull it out. I cried more than he did! Another baby tooth never came in, but we know that he has his adult tooth. He's going to have to fit both of them in the space that opened up today. Don't worry, we are already starting to save for braces.

Bells
This bell hung at my grandmother's house on Cottage Ave in Goshen while I was growing up. It now hangs in my house and always brings a smile to my house when I look at it. Today I thought this "basic" piece looked stunning against the snow and sun from outside, peeking out between our bedroom curtains.

Art by Emma Schrock
Emma Shrock was an elderly Amish artist near my dad's home community of Goshen, Indiana. When I was a little girl, I received this stained plank with oil painting. The picture hanger is a can drink tab nailed onto the back. It seems so simple but holds sentimental value to me. The Daily Shoot prompt for today was to photograph something with texture. This definitely has that... along with personal meaning.

New Year, Old Friends
2 years ago, David and Tyler got me special stuffed animals. They still sleep by my bed and go on trips with me when they aren't with me. Sweet sweet boys.
